The 316 (18/10) classification is the best marine grade of stainless steel because it has a high amount of nickel and is molybdenum-alloyed steel that can endure or resist corrosion, acidic or salty environments, particularly marine environments.

Is 304 STAINLESS STEEL SUITABLE FOR MARINE USE?
Though the 304 (18/8) is the most common grade of stainless steel, it is not suitable for marine use because it can’t withstand a salty environment and heavy corrosion as it contains a low amount of Nickel and no molybdenum.
MARINE GRADE STAINLESS STEEL VS STAINLESS STEEL
As previously stated, there are various grades of stainless steel. Each of these grades has unique characteristics. The 200 series grade classification differs from the 300 and 400 series grade classifications.
For example, simply because stainless steel includes iron does not mean that all stainless steel, particularly 304 (18/8), is magnetic.
